
Mercer Hosts Chattanooga in Play4Kay Game Thursday

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's basketball team welcomes Chattanooga to Hawkins Arena Thursday night. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Mercer's final homestand will begin with its annual Pink Game as part of "Play4Kay". "Play4Kay" is in memory of Kay Yow, a former NC State coach who lost a courageous battle with breast cancer. The Play4Kay game brings players, coaches, officials and fans together as we honor coach Kay Yow and all other women affected by cancer.Â
Fans are invited to wear pink and come cheer on the Bears at Hawkins Arena and help spread awareness of the battle that so many have faced.

The Mercer women's basketball team held UNCG to just six fourth quarter points in a second half that was controlled by the Bears in a 65-46 win over UNCG on Saturday, Feb. 4.
With the game tied at 28 at halftime, Mercer outscored UNCG 37-18 in the second half to pick up its sixth conference win this season.
Mercer held UNCG to just 29 percent shooting from the field and the Spartans were just 2-for-12 from 3-point range.
Amoria Neal-Tysor led the Bears with 20 points on 6-for-13 shooting, including 3-for-6 from 3-point range. Jaron Dougherty was the other Mercer player to score in double-figures as she had 16 points, six rebounds and three assists.
Summah Evans led the Bears with eight rebounds and Ashlee Locke had a career-high three blocks.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga defeated Mercer 78-70 in overtime in the first meeting between the two teams. Chattanooga enters Thursday with the number one scoring defense in the SoCon in conference play as the Mocs are giving up just 56.2 points per game.
Senior guard Yazz Wazeerud-Din leads the Mocs in scoring and is second in the SoCon, averaging 15.9 points per game.
Two other players averaging double-figures in scoring for the Mocs are Raven Thompson (13.8 ppg) and Abbey Cornelius (10.6 ppg). Thompson and Cornelius are also second and third in rebounding for the Mocs. Chattanooga's leading rebounder in conference play has been Addie Porter who ranks third in the conference at 9.0 rebounds per game.
The Freshman Thompson is aggressive in getting to the basket and as a result leads the SoCon with 5.6 free throw attempts per game. Wazeerud-Din and Addie Porter lead the SoCon in minutes played per game, as each average more than 38 minutes per game.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 31st meeting all-time between Mercer and Chattanooga. Chattanooga leads the series 19-11.
STANDOUT STAT
Mercer has shot at least 40 percent from 3-point range in each of its last five games.
