Mercer Claims Series Over Baylor with Saturday Win

WACO, Texas. – With a 7-4 victory on Saturday, the Mercer baseball program (11-5) took the series against Baylor (5-10). This is the first three-game series win over an active Big 12 school in Mercer program history.

Mercer wrapped around the order in the first inning and scored four with two outs already on the board. Landon Underhill, Trevor Austin, and Eli Runyan each hit RBI singles, and Ty Dalley earned a walk with the bases loaded to notch the fourth run for Mercer.

Carter Geier hit his first home run as a Mercer Bear in the third inning to score two more for MU. The third baseman reached base in all four plate appearances on Saturday.

In the seventh, Treyson Hughes added an insurance run for Mercer with his fifth home run of the season. He is now tied for the team lead with Dalley and Eric Toth.

Ryan Lobus (2-1) started on the bump for Mercer and struck out eight which is one strikeout shy of his career best set last weekend. The junior struck out the side in the second inning and earned at least one strikeout in five out of six innings thrown. Wesley Franklin entered in relief in the seventh inning and recorded his third save of the season. The right-hander struck out four, tying a season high.

NOTES

This is the first three-game series win over an active Big 12 school in Mercer program history. Mercer won a weekend series against West Virginia, a current Big 12 school, in 1976 before the Big 12 Conference was formed.
Carter Geier hit his first career home run for Mercer.
Geier reached base in all four plate appearances on Saturday: Hit by pitch, home run, walk, walk.
Treyson Hughes, with his fifth home run of the season, is now tied for the team lead in home runs with Ty Dalley and Eric Toth who both went yard on Friday against Baylor.
Hughes has reached base in 22-straight games, dating back to the 2022 season.
Jozsef Rohrbacher made his second appearance and first start at catcher this season. He has played four positions this year: right field, left field, third base, and catcher.
Mercer has won six of the last seven games.
