Josh Farmer threw 7.0 scoreless innings
Mercer opened the scoring in the second inning with a double by Carter Geier for his third RBI of the weekend, scoring Trevor Austin from first base. MU went scoreless for the next two innings before adding two more runs in the fifth with two outs already on the board. Reid Brown notched an RBI double, plating Treyson Hughes who sprinted home from first base. Austin brought home R. Brown with a single through the left side.
Hughes hit two RBI singles to increase the lead, and a sacrifice fly from Austin scored Bradley Frye to cap off the scoring for Mercer. Dating back to the 2022 season, Hughes has reached base in 23-straight games.
Farmer (1-1) earned his first win of the season after throwing a career-high seven shutout innings. The redshirt senior allowed four hits and one walk while striking out five batters. Holton McGaha was credited with his first save of the season after recording the final out in the ninth.
The Mercer defense made multiple stellar plays, including a diving catch by Hughes in center field. Colby Branch, Baylor's leadoff hitter, was caught stealing for the first time this season by Farmer.
Austin went 3-for-3 on Sunday, and Hughes also recorded three hits, finishing 3-for-5. R. Brown and Geier each recorded two hits.
