Bears Finish Sweep of Bellarmine

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (9-4) won, 15-5, on Sunday afternoon against Bellarmine (5-6) to complete a four-game sweep of the Knights.
Bellarmine took a one-run lead in the first inning, but the Bears soon took control and never surrendered the lead. Trevor Austin singled to left field in the first to score Eric Toth and Treyson Hughes for his first two RBI of the day.
In the bottom of the third, Ty Dalley hit his third home run of the weekend and fourth of the year to bring in three more runs for the Bears. Ben Olson made it back-to-back home runs for Mercer as he went yard on the first pitch of his at-bat.
Austin hit the first triple of the season for the Bears in the sixth, scoring Max Kops who finished with one hit and two walks in his second appearance for Mercer. The junior from the Netherlands hit an RBI double in the eighth for Mercer's final run of the day.
Jess Ackerman (2-0) threw three scoreless innings for the Bears and struck out two. Garrett Sloan (1.1 innings), Alex McKay (1.0 inning), and Micah Takac (1.0 inning) also posted scoreless outings for Mercer.
The Bears recorded 14 total hits and only struck out five times on Sunday. Toth finished 3-for-4 while also reaching base on two walks. Seven players plated runs led by Austin and Dalley with three RBI each.
