
Mercer to Face FAMU

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (18-11, 3-3 SoCon) will host Florida A&M (13-15, 7-2 SWAC) on Tuesday, April 4 at 6 p.m. at OrthoGeorgia Park. The teams previously met in Tallahassee for a midweek pair in February this season with Mercer winning both.
It is Tidy Tuesday at OrthoGeorgia Park. The first 200 fans will receive a free roll of paper towels as the Bears look to Wipe Up the Rattlers. The first 100 students can also enjoy free Kona Ice as part of the Beach Bash with beach volleyball also playing at 6 p.m.

Mercer earned its 100th win over FAMU all-time in February after a pair of wins in Tallahassee. The Bears lead the overall series, 100-30-1, and have won the last 15 matchups.

SCOUTING FAMU
The Rattlers have fared well in SWAC play despite struggling in non-conference matchups. Over the weekend, FAMU lost a series to Bethune-Cookman, 2-1. The Rattlers have lost the last four midweek games against Troy (2), Ball State, and Auburn. FAMU's last midweek win came against North Florida on February 28.

Janmikell Bastardo leads the team with a .400 batting average and .653 slugging percentage. He batted .333 combined against the Bears in the February meetings. The Rattlers have a better team batting average (.297) than Mercer (.270) and have scored more runs (221) than the Bears (207).

Asmir Asghar and Dallas Tease started the two games against Mercer earlier this season. Asghar has only made two appearances since then while Tease has made six total appearances, three in midweek games and three over the weekend.

The Bears hosted Western Carolina for a weekend series, falling 2-1. Mercer won on Friday to earn head coach Craig Gibson's 649th-career win, passing Barry Myers as the all-time wins leader in program history.

Colton Cosper was named SoCon Pitcher of the Week for his performance on Friday. The sophomore threw five scoreless innings with six strikeouts which is a season high.

Last Wednesday, the Bears recorded an emphatic 15-6 win over Kennesaw State. Eric Toth, Treyson Hughes, and Jackson Cherry each notched home runs in the contest.
