
Mercer to Play SoCon Midweek Pair

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer women's tennis program will play a pair of conference matches this week, splitting time at home and on the road. The Bears will welcome Wofford on Tuesday, April 4 at 3 p.m. Mercer will travel to ETSU on Thursday, April 6 at 2 p.m.

RECENT ACTIONÂ
The Bears recently defeated FAMU 5-2 on Wednesday, March 29 and took the first SoCon loss of the season against Samford, 4-3, on Friday, March 31.Â
Teodora Ristic and Mary Weston Courville won at the first doubles slot and the first and second singles slots, respectively, in both matches. Camilla Ciaccia and Eden Schlagenhauf also defeated both FAMU and Samford on court two for doubles while Marina de Diego Quinones and Kristin Yordanova went 1-1 together at the third doubles slot.Â
SCOUTING WOFFORD
The Terriers are 1-4 in conference play, only defeating UNCG, 4-3. The team lost to ETSU, Chattanooga, Furman and Samford. Wofford lost to UTC, 4-3, while Mercer defeated the team earlier this season, 5-2.Â
The team is on a four-match losing streak and most recently lost to Furman 5-2 and Samford 4-3. Georgia Fischer and Lily Woods lost 6-4 to Furman and are 8-9, 1-3 together at the first doubles slot this season. Breda Brennan and Emma Sorensen stand at a 7-5, 2-3 record together, playing at the second doubles slot. Brianna Wilbur and Emely Kahrs competed on court three in doubles and defeated Furman 6-3 but lost 6-4 to Samford. The two have not been playing together the entire season, and have a 3-4, 3-1 record together, making them the best performing doubles pair in SoCon play.Â
Woods has occupied the first singles slot all season and is 6-12, 0-6 while Brennan has been at singles two going 10-7, 5-1 so far. Brennan's first conference loss was to Samford's Ally Hayduk which went to three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 3-6. All the other singles slots have changed throughout the season, but Kahrs is 11-8, 2-4 on the season with all 11 wins coming from the fifth singles slot. Wilbur also has a more impressive record, going 13-6, 4-2 at the third and fourth singles slots.

The Bucs have played three conference matches and defeated UNCG 6-1, Wofford 6-1 and Samford 7-0. In more recent competition, ETSU lost to #39 Charlotte 4-0 and defeated Middle Tennessee 4-0.
Laylo Bakhodirova and Mariya Shemeika have played together at the first doubles slot all season and are 12-5, 3-0 so far. Fernanda Carvajal and Daniela Rivera have played primarily on court two and are 11-4, 2-0 together. Doubles three has been up in the air in terms of who plays in the slot, but Ralitsa Alexandrova and Emilia Alfaro have competed the most and are 1-7, 0-2 together.
Bakhodirova, four-time SoCon Player of the Week, is 13-3, 3-0 at singles one while Shumeika is 8-10, 2-1 at the second singles slot. Much like doubles, singles do not have set-in-stone players at any of the other slots; however many players have good records.
