Bears Finish Third With Two In Top 10 at NGI Tournament

Dubnik and Järvelä each finished tied for sixth

MARICOPA, Ariz. - The Mercer women's golf team concluded its postseason tournament in third place out of 10 teams at the NGI Tournament. The Bears finished 26-over, 890 for the tournament.

Mikayla Dubnik and Camilla Järvelä each finished tied for sixth place at 3-over 219 at the NGI Tournament from Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club.

Two Big Ten teams finished ahead of Mercer. The Bears finished 12 shots back of NGI Tournament champions Penn State who finished 14-over, 878. Mercer was just one shot back of runner-up Iowa who finished 25-over, 889.

Mercer led the field on par 4's with an average of 4.14 strokes and were +17 on the par 4's over the 54 holes. That was significantly better than the rest of the field as the next best team on par 4's was Texas State at +29.

Mercer was the second best team for the tournament on par 3's as only tournament winners Penn State performed better on them.

Dubnik and Järvela held steady in the top 10 as each entered the final round on Sunday in the top 10 as well.

Järvela was one of the best golfers on the par 3's for the tournament as she was 1-over on them, third best among the 48-player field. Dubnik was right behind her at 2-over for the tournament on par 3's. Dubnik also performed well on the par 5's where she averaged 4.67 strokes and was 4-under on them, tied for second best in the field.

Dubnik had 12 birdies over the 54-hole tournament, tied for the most among all golfers. Järvelä's 39 pars were tied for second most in the field.

Carol Pyon had the lowest final round for the Bears with an even-par 72 on Sunday and moved her up 10 spots on the final leaderboard at tied for 16th.
