
Bears Set for Final Midweek Game Against Georgia Tech

MACON, Ga. – The Mercer baseball program (31-20) will wrap up the midweek schedule with a game against Georgia Tech (30-21) on Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. at OrthoGeorgia Park.
It is Tidy Tuesday at the ballpark, and the first 200 fans will receive a free can of wasp spray as the Bears look to Spray the Yellow Jackets.

The Yellow Jackets lead the all-time series, 73-26. The teams split the meetings last season, with Mercer winning at home. Georgia Tech won in Atlanta earlier this season, 6-3, in a defensive battle.

SCOUTING GEORGIA TECH
Immediately after the two teams met in April, Georgia Tech swept Gardner-Webb by scoring 50 total runs. The Yellow Jackets have also earned 2-1 series victories over Pitt and Duke while dropping a midweek game against Kennesaw State.

The same starting pitcher from the first matchup this season, Camron Hill, will be starting on the bump on Tuesday. Hill posts a 7.11 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 25.1 innings pitched. The left-hander made three appearances since the last meeting for a total of 5.0 innings. Hill gave up five hits and five runs in 0.2 innings against Gardner-Webb and five hits and two runs against Kennesaw State in 2.1 innings. He threw a scoreless pair of innings against Pitt.

The Bears return to OrthoGeorgia Park on an all-time high after sweeping Wofford for the first time since 1997 and moving into first place in the Southern Conference. Mercer handed Wofford its first SoCon sweep since 2016 with a trio of stellar wins.

Six players combined for 11 home runs over the weekend, including multi-home run games by Jackson Cherry, Antonio Brown, and Jozsef Rohrbacher. Cherry hit three home runs in the series on his way to Southern Conference Player of the Week honors. Eric Toth, Treyson Hughes, and Carter Sanford each added one, featuring Sanford's grand slam on Friday which notched the win for the Bears.

On the mound, the pitching staff combined for 28 strikeouts in the series, including 14 on Friday. Colton Cosper struck out seven in 5.2 innings pitched while Ryan Lobus struck out all six batters he faced to earn the decision. Lobus entered in relief again on Saturday to grab his second save of the year. On Sunday, Jaxon O'Neal struck out the side in the ninth to seal the series sweep.
