Jackson Cherry Named SoCon Player of the Week

Cherry batted .600 with three home runs, five RBI, four runs
SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Jackson Cherry was named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for his performance during the week of May 8-14, it was announced by the league office.
Cherry batted .600, going 6-for-10, during Mercer's sweep of Wofford. The redshirt sophomore hit three home runs, including two on Friday, contributing to the team's total of 11. He also recorded four runs and five RBI.
The Forest, Virginia, native posted a 1.500 slugging percentage and .667 on-base percentage while also fielding 1.000 in the series. On Friday, Cherry went 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and two home runs in back-to-back at-bats. His third run of the game tied the game at six apiece in the seventh. Because of his success at the plate, Cherry earned two intentional walks against the Terriers.
Friday was Cherry's second multi-home run game of the season after also hitting two against Georgia Southern on March 22. Three hits and three runs were both career bests for Cherry.
This is the first SoCon weekly honor of Cherry's career and the fifth of the season for Mercer. Carter Sanford was named SoCon Player of the Week while Josh Harlow, Josh Farmer, and Colton Cosper earned SoCon Pitcher of the Week honors.
Mercer's next game is on Tuesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. against Georgia Tech at OrthoGeorgia Park.
