Mercer Places 46 on 2023 SoCon Fall Academic All-Conference Team

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Mercer University placed 46 student-athletes on the 2023 Fall Academic All-Southern Conference Team, the league announced Thursday afternoon.

The Bears' 46 selections ranked fifth among all SoCon schools. Football led Fall sports with 14 selections to the Academic All-Conference Team. Women's soccer (9), men's soccer (8), men's cross country (8), women's cross country (5), and volleyball (2) rounded out Mercer's honorees. Seven Bears maintained a perfect a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA: Zachary Burke (men's cross country), Peyton Millwood (men's cross country), John Pothoulakis (men's cross country), Lena Dykes (women's soccer), Sara Engels (women's soccer), Mackenzie Gassie (women's soccer), Elizabeth Hargis (women's soccer).

To be eligible for the academic all-conference team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the conclusion of the Fall semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
