MACON – Mercer women's basketball head coach Michelle Clark-Heard announced the first of three expected additions during the early signing period on Friday when Texas prep standout Anaiah White announced her intentions to continue her academic and athletic career with the Bears.
Â
White, a 5-8 guard, will make the move to Middle Georgia following a standout prep career at Cypress Ranch High School in Houston, Texas, for coach Megan Daniels. She has also made a name for herself as a member of AAU's Louisiana Aces under the direction of coach Jarvon Anderson.
Â
"Anaiah is a versatile guard, and I have had the privilege of knowing her and her family for a long time," said Clark-Heard. "She can score at all three levels and has a great presence as a floor general. Anaiah also has a high IQ for the game, and will bring that to our program. She is also someone that knows what a winning culture looks like and I am excited to officially have her in the Bears family."
Â
One of just six student-athletes to play in all 35 games for the Mustangs last season, White paced Cypress High School to 19 victories and an appearance in the state playoffs. She earned a spot on the all-district squad at season's end, and also earned team most valuable player honors as well. White possesses a basketball pedigree as the daughter of current Houston assistant coach Quannas White who, as a player, helped lead Oklahoma to the 2002 NCAA Final Four.
Â
A member of the academic excellence honor roll, White currently maintains a 5.833 cumulative grade point average at Cypress High School.
