Volleyball Finishes Undefeated At Home, Sweeps UNC Greensboro On Senior Night

MACON - The Mercer volleyball team remained undefeated at home throughout the entire 2024 regular season for the first time in program history after a Senior Day sweep against UNC Greensboro. The Bears finish the regular reason with a record of 24-5, an in conference record of 14-2 and a SoCon Regular Season Championship title.

The seniors made their mark one last time in Hawkins Arena tonight with Skyler Bumpers tying her season-high 16 kills, hitting an impressive .481 at the net. Skye Ekes added 17 kills of her own with a .323 hitting percentage and Brooke Phillips picked up 42 assists, five digs, three kills and a service ace in the victory.

The Bears will travel to Spartanburg, S.C. next week to compete in the Southern Conference Tournament. The Orange & Black head into the tournament as the number one seed as they look to take another first place title to enter themselves into the NCAA Tournament. Play will begin on Friday, Nov. 22 and will go through Sunday, Nov. 24.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-21	Mercer fell into a hole in the beginning half of the first set falling behind the Spartans 9-14. MeMe Davis then went on a seven-point service run to put the Bears up 18-16 and Skye Ekes shut the set down with back-to-back kills.
SET 2 I 25-18	Set two belonged to the Bears throughout the entire match with Mercer not letting UNC Greensboro within three points. Skyler Bumpers put up a dominating six-kill performance to close the curtain on set two.
SET 3 I 25-17	In typical Brooke Phillips fashion, she opened the set with a five-point service run getting the Bears a comfortable 5-0 lead. The Spartans were able to find some energy to come within three points but it was not enough to shut down Mercer's explosive offense.
