MERCER/NORTH CAROLINA A&T SERIES
Mercer shot better than 46 percent from the field and outscored North Carolina A&T, 20-12, in the fourth quarter on the way to a 55-52 road win over the Bulldogs last season in Greensboro, N.C. That is the only other previous meeting between the two teams headed into Sunday's matchup.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES | |
North Carolina A&T returned all five starters and three other letterwinners off of last season's 22-win squad that captured a pair of games in the Women's National Invitational Tournament. The Bulldogs dropped a tough 66-47 home matchup to No. 14 North Carolina on Tuesday evening, and are 0-2 on the road so far this season with losses to both Rice and Southern Methodist.
LAST TIME OUT | |
Sharp-shooting Western Kentucky limited home-standing Mercer to a 25 percent shooting effort in the opening half to forge a big halftime lead, and then kept the Bears at a distance the rest of the way out on the way to a 78-54 victory on Tuesday evening at Hawkins Arena. Freshman Talia Harris scored all of her team-best nine points in the second half, while also posting a steal, to lead the hosts.
ON DECK | |
The Bears will hit the road again on Wednesday when they travel to Starkville, Miss., to tangle with Mississippi State (3-0) in Humphrey Coliseum. Tipoff has been slated for 7:30 ET.
