
Women Place 5th, Men 6th At SoCon Championships

GREENVILLE – The Mercer men's and women's cross country teams competed at the Southern Conference Championships in Greenville, S.C. at the Furman University Golf Club. The women's team placed fifth with the men's team coming in sixth place.

Emma James posted a personal best and was the first Bear to cross the finish line in 19th place for the Bears with a time of 17:51.3. Iris Porter was the second finisher for the Bears with a time of 18:16.2 in 26th place, following shortly behind was Paula Sandoval with a time of 18:16.9 for 27th place.

On the men's side, Jacob Peters posted a personal best time in the 8K at the 25:20.6 for the first Bear to finish and 13th place overall. Buck Ledford crossed the line second for Mercer with a time of 25:27.8, coming in 18th place and Reece Cato came in 21st with a time of 25:42.0 and the third finisher for the Bears.

The Furman Paladins took home the first place title for both the men's and women's teams for the 12th year in a row. Western Carolina came in second place on the men's side and Samford for the women's. The Mercer men's team finished with a score of 125 and the women finished with 97.
