MACON – Graduate student Nick Wanzer and senior Sekou Agard have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Men's Soccer team, the organization announced yesterday. Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.Â
Â
Wanzer, a midfielder from Frisco, Texas, has been named Academic All-District three times in his career. He graduated from Mercer last year as a marketing and finance double major with a minor in management, earning a 3.80 undergraduate GPA. Wanzer is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration and carries a 4.0 GPA in the program.Â
Â
Wanzer has been a mainstay in the Mercer lineup over the past five seasons, playing in 85 games and starting 82. He played over 7,000 minutes in the Orange & Black, posting 23 points and helping the Bears win two SoCon Tournament titles and make two appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Wanzer was selected to the SoCon All-Freshman Team in 2020-21 and to the SoCon All-Tournament Team in 2022 and 2023. In 2023, Wanzer received the prestigious SoCon Pinnacle Award, given to the student-athlete on the tournament-winning team with the highest GPA.Â
Â
Agard, a defender from Snellville, Ga., has been selected to the Academic All-District team for the second time in his career. Majoring in computer engineering, he holds a 3.55 cumulative GPA. Agard was also named a finalist for the CSC Academic All-American team and advances to the national ballot, voted on by CSC members. All-American teams will be announced on December 10.Â
Â
Agard has enjoyed a decorated career in the Orange & Black, earning back-to-back all-conference first team selections in 2023 and 2024, SoCon Tournament Most Outstanding Player honors in 2023 and United Soccer Coaches All-South Region Third Team laurels in 2023. Agard played in 75 games with 70 starts over the past four seasons, logging more than 6,400 minutes of action and helping the Bears to two SoCon Tournament titles. The defender had a career year offensively in 2024, scoring a career-high five goals to tie for the team lead. In October, Top Drawer Soccer recognized Agard among the nation's best players, ranking him 38th in their midseason top 100 players rankings.Â
