Mercer Wraps Up Road Trip At Bethune-Cookman

MACON – The Mercer women's basketball team will put the kibosh on a three-game road trip on Saturday when the Bears head to Daytona Beach, Fla., to take on Bethune Cookman in a 2 p.m. tilt inside Moore Gymnasium.

Fans unable to make the trip to northeast Florida can still follow the action for free via a live statistics link provided by the B-C athletics department. The game is also scheduled to be broadcasted live on YouTube.

MERCER/BETHUNE-COOKMAN SERIES
Bethune-Cookman has captured two of the three previous matchups with the Bears in a series that dates back to the 1985-86 campaign. Mercer's only win in the 3-game-old series was a 48-47 triumph at the South Carolina Classic on Nov. 25, 2006, in Columbia, S.C. Bethune-Cookman used an 11-2 run over the game's final 5-1/2 minutes to capture a 60-58 win over Mercer in Hawkins Arena last season.

SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
Mercer (3-5) will be looking for its first road win of the season when it locks horns with the Wildcats on Saturday in northeast Florida. The Bears rank second among the eight Southern Conference teams in both free throw percentage (73.1) and free throws made per game (13.25). Conversely, the Orange & Black also ranks second among SoCon teams in fouls per game (14.6). Junior Ariana Bennett has reached double-figure scoring numbers in four out of the last five games, and paces the Bears with 9.0 points per game heading into the weekend.\ Redshirt sophomore Aspen Johnson boasts the nation's 23^rd-best free throw percentage (.926), and has connected on 17 out of her last 18 free throw attempts.

LAST TIME OUT
Bethune-Cookman (2-4) will bring one the nation's best steals per game (12.5) into Saturday's outing, while also sporting the nation's 36^th-best turnover margin (+6.67). Bethune-Cookman also averages 35.7 bench points per game (12^th NCAA). Junior forward Asianae Nicholson leads the Wildcats in both scoring (11.0 ppg) and rebounding (9.0 rpg) in just 24 minutes of action per game this season. Nicholson has come in off of the bench in five of B-C's six games. The Wildcats are 0-4 this season when being held to 30.2 percent shooting or less. Bethune-Cookman shot at least 53.8 percent from the field in wins over Fort Lauderdale (.538) and Trinity Baptist (.639), and turned in a season-low 23.5 percent shooting performance in Sunday's loss at Virginia.

ON DECK
Mercer will open up a short two-game home stand on Thursday when it suits up to take on Charlotte (3-4) on Education Day inside Hawkins Arena. Tipoff is slated for 11 a.m.
