Bears Split Pair In DeLand

RESULTS (ECKERD | SOUTHERN MISS)

MACON – Beach Volleyball split a pair of duals, as the Bears swept Eckerd College 5-0 before absorbing a 3-2 setback to Southern Miss Saturday.

The Bears built their lead on the strength of four straight set victories but completed the sweep thanks to a hard-fought victory from the No. 2 pair of Nicole O'Mara and Jordan Paddock. The duo bounced back after dropping their opening set 19-21 by taking the middle frame 21-9 to force the deciding third set, which they won in dramatic fashion, 17-15.

Hollis Engel and Liv Diaz shined on court five with a perfect day, sweeping both of their opponents in straight sets. The No. 1 pair of Sydney Benson and Alyssa Scoggins also had a 2-0 day, taking down Eckerd in straight sets and outlasting Southern Miss in a three-set affair.

The Bears are back in action next weekend at the Duuuval Duals hosted by North Florida. The two-day tournament begins March 1st.
