
Women's Basketball Hosts Chattanooga Saturday in Alumni and Play4Kay Game

PLAY4KAY GAME
Mercer is once again hosting a Play4Kay Game to celebrate the life of former North Carolina State University women's basketball head coach Kay Yow, who was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987 and battled the disease until 2009. The game is in honor of coach Yow and all others who have battled cancer.Â
The first 100 students and 150 fans in attendance will receive a pink Mercer Bears beanie.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's game between Mercer and Chattanooga is the 33rd all-time meeting between the two programs. Chattanooga leads the series 21-11. Chattanooga defeated Mercer earlier this season, 66-57.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
Chattanooga is coming off a 20-13 season in 2022-23. The Mocs went on to win the SoCon Tournament, punching their ticket to the NCAA Tournament.
This season, the Mocs were picked as the preseason favorites to win the SoCon by the media and picked second by the coaches.
Chattanooga is ranked No. 12 in the women's mid major top 25 poll. The Mocs enter today's game on a nine game winning streak and have not lost a true road game this season.
The Mocs have the best scoring defense in the SoCon, allowing just 53.9 points per game. They also have the best scoring margin in the conference as they are outscoring opponents by 11.0 points per game.
Chattanooga has the second and third leading scorers in the SoCon in Jada Guinn (18.0 ppg) and Raven Thompson (14.4 ppg).Â
Guinn is one of two players in the SoCon shooting better than 50.0 percent from the field this season.
LAST TIME OUT
Summah Evans tallied a game high 21 points, had a double-double, and several Mercer players came up with key plays down the stretch as Mercer defeated ETSU 65-57 on Thursday night in Hawkins Arena.
Mercer and ETSU found themselves in a tie game at 45 a piece after three quarters of basketball. Then, the Bears got several key stops and offensive plays from many different players in the fourth quarter helping the Bears outscore ETSU 20-12 in the fourth quarter.
Each team shot 41 percent from the field, but Mercer was better from behind the arc, going 8-for-15 (53%) to ETSU's, 3-for-14 (21%).Â
