Mercer Baseball Opens Conference Play At UNC Greensboro On Friday

MACON – Mercer (10-7, 0-0 SoCon) will play its first Southern Conference games of the season this weekend against UNC Greensboro (11-9, 0-0 SoCon). First pitch of the series is on Friday at 12 p.m. in Greensboro.Â
All games will be streamed on ESPN+. Saturday's game is scheduled for 6 p.m. and Sunday's game is at 1 p.m.
The most recent meeting between the two squads was in the 2023 Southern Conference tournament when the Spartans sent the Bears home in a 9-5 loss. This evened the season matchups at 2-2.

| Mercer swept Siena in a series in Macon last weekend, winning the first two games in comeback fashion, then sealing the deal with an 11-point win in seven innings on Sunday. Senior Conner Todaro worked his way back into the starting lineup and leads the team at the plate, batting .417. Jackson Cherry, batting .373, blasted two home runs last weekend to bring his season total to a team-leading five, despite missing the first four games of 2024. Colton Cosper and Jess Ackerman each pitched six innings to start their respective games, and both gave up only two runs. As a team, Mercer's pitching staff has the lowest ERA in the Southern Conference (4.03). |

| UNC Greensboro finished the 2023 season with a 9-12 conference record. In the SoCon tournament, the Spartans defeated Mercer in their fourth game before falling to the 2023 champions, Samford. UNCG stunned then-No.1 Wake Forest early this season, winning 4-3 in Greensboro. The team later got swept at No. 10 Clemson but came back two days later to pummel No. 13 NC State 18-3 in Raleigh. On Tuesday, UNCG lost 3-2 in an 11-inning matchup at North Carolina A&T. Senior Caleb Cozart is tied for first in the SoCon for home runs (10) so far this season and is second in the league in RBI (30). |
