Bears To Celebrate Monroe County Weekend April 19-21

MACON – A baseball card giveaway, a football bass fishing tournament, $2 tickets and an inaugural Bark In The Park event will highlight Monroe County Weekend, April 19-21, when the Mercer baseball team hosts a three-game series against Southern Conference rival Wofford at OrthoGeorgia Park.

The Bears will open up the weekend with the invitation-only Malcolm Cole Jr. Memorial Fish Fry whose proceeds benefit a scholarship that is awarded annually to a baseball student-athlete with high academic achievement and an unparalleled work ethic. The award is named for the late father of Mercer athletics director Jim Cole.

Children and their parents will be able to take the field to run the bases and play a game of catch following Saturday's 2 p.m. outing against the Terriers at Claude Smith Field. On-field extravaganzas will be the focus on Saturday, while fans can get the latest edition of Mercer Baseball trading cards as they enter the gates. The weigh-in for football's third annual bass fishing tournament is also on the docket as part of the day's events.
