CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Mercer Bears fell to 25-11 (4-5 SoCon) with a 5-4 loss to Western Carolina (23-14, 6-3 SoCon) on Sunday afternoon at Hennon Stadium in Cullowhee, North Carolina.
Decisive Plays:
Western Carolina struck first with an RBI double by Noah Quarless after a Mercer fielding error kept the first inning alive. The Bears responded with an RBI single by Braydon Kersey who later came around to score on a throwing error by the Catamounts. Both teams traded a run in the third inning with Logan Shepherd mashing a solo home run (14) off the scoreboard in the top of the frame and a sacrifice fly by Western Carolina that capitalized off a Mercer throwing error in the home half. The Catamounts worked station-to-station and tacked on three runs in the fourth. Mercer scored its final run of the game in the eighth inning courtesy of an RBI single by Eli Stephens. Kaden Fuller took the mound for Western Carolina and stranded two Bears in the eighth. Fuller worked quickly in the ninth and completed the four-out save.
