Evans, Jones Named To All-Southern Conference Team

GREENVILLE, S.C. – Phenomenal regular-season performances paid dividends for a pair of Mercer women's basketball players on Tuesday afternoon when seniors Stacie Jones and Summah Evans both earned a spot on the 2023-24 All-Southern Conference squads.

The announcement marked the ninth-straight season that Mercer has been represented on the postseason All-SoCon squad, and the seventh time across that span that multiple Bears have raked in the honor. It is the first-such accolades for both student-athletes. Evans, the 2022-23 SoCon Defensive Player of the Year, also secured a spot on the SoCon All-Defensive Team for the second-straight season.

Evans, a native of Cairns, Australia, has registered a team-best 13.0 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 17 games played (16 starts) this season, while also putting up 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals an outing as well. A dominant force for MU both inside and outside of the 3-point line, Evans has drained 38.3 percent of her field goal attempts in 2023-24, including a 35-for-85 (.400) success rate from the perimeter. She has also connected on nearly 77 percent of her shots from the charity stripe as well.

A product of nearby Kathleen who played her first three seasons for Kennesaw State, Jones has started in all 30 games for the Orange & Black this season and is averaging 11.8 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.2 assists. Sporting a team-best 46.4 percent success rate from the field this season, Jones has also connected on better than 73 percent of her free throw attempts in 2023-24, while also logging 21 blocks and 20 steals. She has posted double-digit scoring outputs 17 times, while also six double-double performances.

The fourth-seeded Bears (14-16) will open up play in the 2023-24 SoCon Tournament on Thursday when they tangle with fifth-seeded East Tennessee State (18-11) in the opening round. Tipoff has been scheduled for 5:45 p.m. at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, N.C.
