Minetti Picks Up SoCon Player Of The Week Crown

GREENVILLE, S.C. – A perfect week on the court for senior Mariella Minetti was rewarded handsomely on Tuesday afternoon when the Finland native was decorated with Southern Conference Player of the Week accolades, the league office announced.

Minetti, a native of Tampere, Finland, compiled a 5-0 record across three outings for the Bears last week, including a 3-0 mark in singles play. Her three singles wins included a 3-set triumph over Florida State's Millie Bissett which logged a team point for MU against FSU for just the second time in series history.

Minetti began her run through singles play last week by yielding just two games in a straight-sets win over Georgia College's Ashton Morrison, then provided the clinching point in Mercer's win at Troy with a 6-1, 5-7, 6-3 ousting of Valeriia Avdeeva at No. 4 singles. She rebounded from a 6-1 opening-set loss to FSU's Bissett on Sunday by toughing out a 7-5 win in the second set before capping the comeback with a 10-4 decision in the third-set tiebreaker.

Minetti also teamed up with Tea Zivic to capture a pair of doubles wins on court No. 3 last week – a 6-0 victory against Georgia College and a 6-2 win at Troy.

She has already racked up a 15-5 record on the court during MU's traditional spring season so far, including a perfect 8-0 mark with Zivic at No. 3 doubles.

The Bears (7-4) will be back in action again on Saturday when they lace up to take on UConn (7-4) in a high noon matchup at the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center. Admission is free.
