
Mercer Lauded As ITA All-Academic Team, Six Bears Pick Up Individual Honor

MACON – Excellence in the classroom throughout the entirety of the 2025-26 academic year continued to pay dividends on Wednesday when the Mercer women's tennis team was named as one of 231 NCAA Division I teams to be tabbed as an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).

In addition to the team honor, six Bears – Jelena Gojkovic, Valentine Abide Talaki, Ines Hömberg Fernandez, Antonia Schweigel, Marina de Diego Quinones and Tea Zivic – were among more than 1,500 student-athletes to be crowned as an ITA Scholar-Athlete.

Within the sport of tennis, student-athletes continue to exceed expectations in the classroom and on the court. In 2026, 1,501 Division I Women's student-athletes were named ITA Scholar-Athletes, and 231 men's tennis programs were awarded the All-Academic Team distinction.

To be lauded as an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have maintained a grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) for the last academic year. Squads crowned as ITA All-Academic Teams maintained a team grade point average of 3.2 or above (on a 4.0 scale).
