
Wilson Strikes Out Eight And Bears Score 18 In Rout Of Georgia Southern

MACON -- Senior Fred Wilson punched out eight Georgia Southern hitters over 4.2 innings of work to help propel the Mercer Bears (21-18, 4-7 SoCon) past the Eagles (20-21, 9-9 Sun Belt) 18-3.
In addition to his eight strikeouts, Wilson threw 4.2 innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits and walking four for Mercer. Senior Jaxon O'Neal also made an impact on the mound for the Bears, throwing 1.1 shutout innings while allowing no hits, with one walk and one strikeout.
At the plate, the Bears were led by sophomore Ty Dalley, who went 2-for-5 on the day with two home runs and five RBI. Junior Parker Lester furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-3 with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Senior Ben Olson also helped out for Mercer, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding a home run, two walks and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Dalley put Mercer on the board with a two-out solo home run off senior Ty Fisher.
The Bears scored nine runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Dalley, bringing the Mercer advantage to 16-0. Mercer held the Eagles scoreless until the fifth inning when the Eagles scored three runs.
Mercer plated two runs in the fifth inning off of Georgia Southern pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of junior Bradley Frye. Neither team scored in the sixth, and the Bears coasted to the win after the top of the seventh inning.Â
