Mercer Re-Takes Lead In Eighth Inning To Defeat High Point

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The Mercer Bears (22-18, 4-7 SoCon) fought back from down 3-2 in the seventh inning to knock off the High Point Panthers (23-20, 11-4 Big South) 4-3 on Saturday.

Senior Jaxon O'Neal picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Mercer. The left-hander went 2.2 shutout innings while giving up one hit. Junior Bryant Olson also made an impact on the mound for the Bears, throwing one shutout inning while allowing no hits, with one walk and two strikeouts, logging his eighth save of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mercer plated two runs in the third inning when sophomore Ty Dalley left the yard with senior Brandon Prince aboard.

The Panthers then rallied to score three runs and take a 3-2 lead before the Bears got back on the board in the eighth. Mercer picked up two runs in the frame, the big hit being an RBI double from senior Max Kops, which brought the Bears' lead to 4-3. The score remained 4-3 for the rest of the game, as Mercer held on for the win.
