Baseball To Play Weekend Series At High Point

MACON – Mercer (21-18, 4-7 SoCon) heads back to North Carolina this weekend to play High Point (23-19, 11-4 Big South). Saturday's game will be at 5 p.m., and Sunday's doubleheader will start at noon.
The Bears and Panthers have not played each other since a three-game series in Macon a decade ago. Mercer swept the 2014 series.

| Mercer split games with Georgia Southern on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. In Tuesday's game in Statesboro, the Eagles got out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning, but the Bears responded with six in the second. Brandon Prince hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to tie the score at eight, but Georgia Southern nearly doubled its runs while limiting Mercer to only one run, a solo homer by Carter Sanford, for the rest of the game. On Wednesday in Macon, the Bears came back with a vengeance and had a 16-0 lead in the fourth inning, eventually winning 18-3 in seven innings. Ty Dalley hit two home runs in the game - a solo shot in the first inning and a grand slam in the fourth. Parker Lester and Ben Olson both hit 2-RBI home runs in the third inning. |

| High Point is in second in the Big South standings, one loss behind USC Upstate. The Panthers most recently played UNC Greensboro on Wednesday, getting shut out 13-0. This is the  team's second loss to the Spartans this season, and 13 runs were given up in both. Graduate infielder Cael Chatham leads the team at the plate in almost every category, hitting .320 with a 1.067 OPS, 10 home runs, 35 RBI, and a .607 slugging percentage. RHP Gus Hughes has started 10 games this season and has recorded at least six strikeouts in each. LHP Matt Little has pitched one complete game in eight starts this season - a win at home against Radford in which he struck out two batters and gave up just two runs. |
