HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Senior Wesley Franklin and sophomore Micah Takac combined to toss a shutout on Sunday as the Mercer Bears (23-19, 4-7 SoCon) blanked the High Point Panthers (24-21, 11-4 Big South) 8-0.

Franklin started and picked up the win for Mercer, going six shutout innings while giving up five hits, walking three, and striking out two. The right-hander showed elite reflexes, catching two balls hit straight back to him. Takac was dealing out of the bullpen, going three shutout innings, allowing one hit, walking none and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mercer scored three runs in the first inning on a three-run homer off the bat of junior Jackson Cherry.

Neither team scored for the next five innings until Mercer scored one run in the seventh on an Alex Ramirez double. The Bears put up four more in the eighth, sealing the deal to take an 8-0 win and the series.
