MACON -- The Mercer Bears (23-20, 4-7) held an 11-9 lead into the ninth inning, but could not hold on and fell 14-11 to the Georgia State Panthers (22-23, 10-11) Wednesday.

The Bears went through eight pitchers in the game.

Offensively, the Bears were led by senior Noah Best, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a double, a home run, a walk and three RBI. Junior Bradley Frye went 1-for-3 with a home run, two walks and two RBI. Senior Brandon Prince also contributed for Mercer, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Mercer opened the game with a five-run first inning and had an 8-1 lead after three innings but gave up four unanswered runs before getting back on the board. The Bears fought to maintain a lead, last holding the lead in the ninth inning at 11-9. MU gave up five runs in the top of the ninth to dig a hole they could not get out of and ultimately lost 14-11.
