
Mercer Falls To Samford After Weather Delay

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --Â A weather delay was announced just minutes before first pitch in Mercer's (23-21, 4-8 SoCon) 9-1 loss at Samford (30-15, 11-2 SoCon) on Friday.
After an hour wait, the game got underway. Junior Colton Cosper got the ball to start for Mercer and took the loss. Freshman Cody Soliday was a bright spot for the Bears, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bears gave up five runs in the first inning. Senior Noah Best came across to score the lone run of the game for Mercer off of a sac fly from Ty Dalley in the sixth inning. Samford also scored three runs in that frame to post the score that became final, 9-1.
GAME NOTES
» Mercer pitchers faced 39 Samford hitters in the game, allowing 12 ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out five.
» Frye led the Bears at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double.
