MACON – Mercer (23-19, 4-7 SoCon) and Georgia State (21-24, 10-11 SBC) will play in their final of two matchups this season on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at OrthoGeorgia Park. The Panthers won 6-4 in Atlanta in March.

The game time was moved up from its original start at 6 p.m. but will still be streamed on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BEARS

Mercer traveled to High Point over the weekend and won two of three games over the Panthers. In Saturday night's opener, Ty Dalley hit a two-RBI homer in the third inning. The Panthers put one run on the board in the fifth and two more in the sixth to take a 3-2 lead into the eighth inning. Mercer scored in that inning to secure a 4-3 lead. The first game of Sunday's doubleheader was a struggle at the plate for the Bears who only scored one run in the game, ultimately falling 7-1. The Bears fired back in game two and scored on a three-run homer from Jackson Cherry in the first inning. The scoreboard stayed 3-0 until the seventh inning when the Bears added one run, then four in the eighth inning on the way to an 8-0 win. Wesley Franklin and Micah Takac combined to pitch a shutout, giving up only six hits and striking out four batters.

SCOUTING REPORT

The Panthers have a 9-10 road record coming to Macon on Wednesday. GSU is ninth out of 13 teams in the Sun Belt Conference. Senior Will Mize is the only player to appear and start in 44 games this season. He also leads the team at the plate, recording a .340 batting average, 43 RBI, and 10 home runs. Outfielder JoJo Jackson and catcher/first baseman Ryan Dyal also have 10 home runs this season. Senior Matt Ruiz has hit a whopping 17 doubles.

LOOKING AHEAD

Mercer will travel to Samford for a three-game series this weekend. Friday's game will be at 5 p.m., Saturday at 3 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
