Colby Thomas Promoted To Las Vegas Aviators

OAKLAND, Calif. – Colby Thomas, an All-Southern Conference selection for the Bears from 2020-23, has been promoted to the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A Affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, the Major League Baseball club announced Tuesday.

Thomas, a power-hitting outfielder who began his minor league career with the Low-A Stockton Ports last year, began the stint with his fourth minor league club on Tuesday evening, hitting 2-for-3 with a double and a run scored as the starting left fielder in Las Vegas's 8-4 road win over the Tacoma Rainiers (Mariners).

A native of Valdosta, Thomas played in 117 games (115 starts) for the Bears from 2020-23, and compiled a .291 career batting average to go along with 72 extra-base hits (33 HR), 105 RBI and 113 runs scored. He earned SoCon All-Freshman recognition in 2021 after hitting .247 with 23 extra-base hits (10 HR) and 37 RBI, and stormed his way onto the All-SoCon squad the following season by hitting .325 with 33 extra-base hits (17 HR) and 45 RBI.

Thomas hit .283 with eight homers and 49 RBI across 72 games in his first minor league assignment in Stockton, Calif., before being promoted to the Lansing (Mich.) Lugnuts (High-A) for the remainder of the 2023 campaign. He compiled a .290 batting average with 27 extra-base hits (10 HR) and 33 RBI in 54 games with the Lugnuts.

Thomas began this season with the Midland (Texas) Rockhounds (Double-A) and has continued his hitting displays. Through the first 59 games of the 2024 campaign, he put together a .282 batting average with 36 extra-base hits (14 HR) and 47 RBI.
