MERCER/CHATTANOOGA SERIES
The Bears are 11-22-1 all-time in a series with Chattanooga that dates all the way back to the 1909 season. MU has dropped the last two matchups with the Mocs and is just 5-17-1 all-time in Chattanooga. That includes a 2-3 clip against UTC in Finley Stadium (opened 1997). |
||
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA | ||
Picked to win the 2024 Southern Conference championship in a preseason poll of the league's head coaches, Chattanooga returns 14 starters (7 on offense, defense)Â from last year's 8-5 squad that shared runner-up honors in the SoCon a year ago. The Mocs have dropped each of their first two road games - a 69-3 loss at #15 (FBS) Tennessee and a 24-21 heartbreaker last week at Georgia State. Both Tennessee (Citrus) and Georgia State (Famous Idaho Potato) both raked in bowl victories to culminate last season. |
||
BEARS VS. RANKED TEAMS | ||
Mercer is 9-23 over the last decade against nationally-ranked opponents, including a 9-19 mark against ranked FCS opponents. Five of the Bears' nine wins against Top 25Â FCS foes have come away from Macon (5-12 away vs. FCS), while the Orange & Black has also posted a quartet of wins against Top 10-ranked FCS opponents (4-6 vs. Top 10). Just more than one-third (7 of 19) of MU's losses to Top 25 FCS competition have come by seven or fewer points. |
||
MERCER IN SOCON ROAD OPENERS
Mercer is 6-4 in Southern Conference road openers since joining the league prior to the 2014 campaign, but had its two-game winning skein in such games snapped last season with a 38-14 setback at then-No. 7 Furman. MU's SoCon road openers over the last 10 seasons have been decided by an average of 5.3 points, but each of the last four games have been separated by three or more scores. |
