
Wofford Registers Sweep Of Visiting Mercer

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Home-standing Wofford hit .260 at the net and registered 13 blocks on the way to a 3-0 sweep of visiting Mercer on Friday evening at Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.

Sophomore Sophia Henry registered a team-best 10 kills for the Bears (5-13, 1-4 SoCon) who also got 22 assists from  sophomore Sammi Bergjans. It was the fifth win in the last six outings for the Terriers (8-8, 4-1) who improved to 5-1 in Spartanburg this season with the result as well.

SET 1 I 15-25Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â | Wofford notched a .300 hitting percentage in the opening set and set the tone for the night by tacking up five of the first six points on the way to a 25-15 decision. Mercer pulled to within a point, 7-6, in the early going following blocks from Avery Wilks and Lara Matta, but the Terriers answered with an 11-4 run to pull away for good. | |
SET 2 I 22-25 | The Bears maintained control for a large portion of the second set, but the Terriers rallied back from a 20-17 deficit with eight of the last 10 points to swing all of the momentum. Mercer scored the first four points of the set, and did not trail until block assists from Annemarie Rakoski and Natalie Arnold put up the last of four-straight points for Wofford that gave it a 21-20 advantage. | |
SET 3 I 18-25 | The Terriers hit an impressive .367 at the net and made an early 10-3 lead stand up on the way to closing out the team victory. Wofford led by as many as eight points, 16-8, in the final set after a kill from Annemarie Rakoski and the Bears were unable to claw away at the deficit. |
