MACON – A three-day run on the links that concluded in the top 10, as well as a career night in the mountains of Tennessee, were handsomely rewarded on Wednesday evening when junior CJ Miller and graduate student Katie Scheck were named the Mercer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 28.
Â
Miller, a native of Gadsden, Ala., ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 5:40 remaining, as the 22nd-ranked football team knocked off Southern Conference foe East Tennessee State, 38-34. He established new career highs for both receptions (4) and receiving yards (41) in finishing the night with 213 all-purpose yards as well. The performance showcased the 8th-highest single game rushing yards total in program history, while Miller's 29 rushing attempts ranks third all-time in program annals.
Â
A product of Ooltewah, Tenn., Scheck tallied a pair of sub-par rounds on the way to finishing in a tie for 12th place at the talent-laden Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colo. Her run through central Colorado included a 4-under-par 68 in the second round that moved her into the top 10, as well as a final-round 71. It was her second and third sub-par rounds in two fall tournaments for the Orange & Black.
