Eikelbarner, Hampshaw Named Mercer Student-Athletes Of The Week

MACON – A pair of outstanding performances that paced the Bears to an unblemished week on the soccer pitch bore additional fruit on Monday afternoon when senior forward Morganne Eikelbarner and sophomore goalkeeper Henry Hampshaw were crowned as the Mercer Student-Athletes of the Week for the week ending September 7.

Eikelbarner, a transfer from Oklahoma, logged eight shots and scored four times as the women's soccer team took down in-state foe Kennesaw State, 3-2, on Thursday before blanking visiting Gardner-Webb by a 5-0 count on Sunday. The Plano, Texas, product netted the game's first goal in the win over the Owls, and then produced a hat trick (three goals), including a pair of second half scores, against the Runnin' Bulldogs.

A transfer from William Carey, Hampshaw tallied seven saves in 180 minutes of action between the pipes as the Bears used late-match dramatics to register a 1-0 win over Georgia State on Wednesday and a draw with No. 22 South Florida on Sunday. The Englishman registered a quartet of saves in the win over the Panthers – Mercer's first in the series with their in-state rivals in nearly a decade – and then totaled a trio of stops in Sunday's tie with the nationally-ranked Bulls.
