
Sanjurjo's Defense Pushes Mercer Past The Citadel

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Mercer's defense was on display Thursday night in McAlister Fieldhouse as the Bears took down The Citadel 3-0.
The Bears combined for a total of 12 blocks compared to The Citadel's two. Sophomore middle blocker Joselynn Sanjurjo tied her career-high with six blocks on the night and sophomore libero Aubri Martin recorded 19 digs from the back row. Freshman right-side hitter Lara Matta led Mercer's offense and the match with 12 kills (.524) while freshman outside hitter Charlotte Thompson followed closely behind with eight kills of her own. Sammi Bergjans recorded a match-high 24 assists in the victory.
