CHARLESTON, S.C. - Mercer's defense was on display Thursday night in McAlister Fieldhouse as the Bears took down The Citadel 3-0.

The Bears combined for a total of 12 blocks compared to The Citadel's two. Sophomore middle blocker Joselynn Sanjurjo tied her career-high with six blocks on the night and sophomore libero Aubri Martin recorded 19 digs from the back row. Freshman right-side hitter Lara Matta led Mercer's offense and the match with 12 kills (.524) while freshman outside hitter Charlotte Thompson followed closely behind with eight kills of her own. Sammi Bergjans recorded a match-high 24 assists in the victory.

The Bears return to Hawkins Arena on Saturday, Nov. 1 to host the Furman University Paladins in a 6 p.m. contest. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 25-22	The Bulldogs minimized errors in the beginning of set one while it took the Bears a little bit longer to build up their momentum. Mercer went on a 5-0 run to secure the set-one win off of an ace from Abbey Havrilla.
SET 2 I 25-21	The Bears once again had to play comeback, taking the lead at the 21-20 mark after not having the lead since the 7-6 mark earlier in the set. Mercer capitalized off of a few Bulldog errors and a kill from Lara Matta to force a must-win set three for The Citadel.
SET 3 I 25-22	Mercer carried the momentum into set three taking a 10-7 lead over The Citadel. The Bears continued to rack up points while keeping the Bulldogs a few points behind until they tied it at the 20-20 mark. A kill from Olivia Elliott and a few Bulldog errors gave Mercer the edge over The Citadel.
