No. 8 Bears Tangle With Chattanooga On Homecoming

MACON – The No. 8/8 Mercer Bears will close out the home portion of their regular season schedule on Saturday when they battle Southern Conference foe Chattanooga on Homecoming in Five Star Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Saturday's game will be broadcasted live on ESPN+ with Frank Malloy and Phil Cox handling the duties in the booth. Rick Cameron and the rest of the Mercer Sports Network will call all of the action as well, and fans can listen to that broadcast on The Creek 100.9 FM, or by visiting Sportsmic. A live statistics link is also being provided by the Mercer athletics department.

MERCER/CHATTANOOGA SERIES
Listed among the Southern Conference's longest-running rivalries, Mercer will meet Chattanooga for the 36th time on Saturday in a series that dates all the way back to the 1909 season ... The Mocs lead the all-time series, 22-12-1, but the Bears have captured three of the last five meetings and are 6-5 all-time in Macon ... Mercer got the better end of a 10-3 decision last year in Chattanooga, Tenn., in a battle of nationally-ranked squads.

SCOUTING THE MOCS
Chattanooga rolls into Macon boasting the nation's 13th-ranked rushing offense (206.7 yards/game), while also toting FCS's 33rd-ranked scoring offense (30.9 points/game) ... The Mocs have won four of their last five games, including a dominant 45-28 home win over Furman last week ... Reigning Southern Conference Offensive Player of the Week Battle Alberson threw for 277 yards and four touchdowns in that triumph, while also carrying the ball seven times for 85 yards ... The Mocs had a season-longest three-game win streak stopped with a 35-28 home loss to Western Carolina on November 1.

HOMECOMING IN MACON
The Bears are 5-7 all-time in Homecoming matchups at Five Star Stadium, but have captured three of the last four Homecoming games in Macon, including a current two-game win skein in such contests ... Six of Mercer's last eight Homecoming opponents have rolled into Middle Georgia with national rankings ... MU jumped on an onside kick attempt with 42 seconds left to preserve a 37-31 victory over then-No. 23 East Tennessee State in last year's Homecoming tilt.

IT'S BEEN A WHILE
With a victory over the Mocs on Saturday, Mercer will clinch its second-straight outright Southern Conference championship and will become the first team since Appalachian State in 2008 and 2009 to accomplish that feat ... The Bears clinched at least a share of the SoCon title with a 49-47 win at Western Carolina last week to become the first team since Wofford in 2018 (outright) and 2019 (shared) to claim at least a share of back-to-back conference crowns.

NEXT WEEK FOR THE BEARS
