Mercer Closes Out Home Stand Against Erskine Wednesday Morning

MACON – The Mercer women's basketball team will play its final home game of the 2025 calendar year on Wednesday when the Bears lace up to take on Erskine on Education Day in Hawkins Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.

Fans unable to make the trip to Middle Georgia can still follow the action for free via a live statistics link provided by the MU athletics department. The game is also scheduled to be broadcasted live on ESPN+ with Billy Andrews and Phil Cox handling the call.

LAST TIME OUT
Home-standing Mercer drained six 3-pointers in the opening period and never looked back as the Bears used their best perimeter performance in nearly two years to trounce visiting Mississippi Valley State, 66-43, on Sunday afternoon in Hawkins Arena. It was the third-straight home win for Mercer (6-5) who canned a season-high 11 triples on the afternoon and got 17 points apiece from newcomers Elena Cabello and Abigail Holtman in the rout.

ABOUT THE BEARS
The Bears (5-5) continue to showcase the Southern Conference's best 3-point shooting squad (33.6 percent) and have connected on at least five perimeter shots six times this season. Mercer has been just as deadly at the free throw line having drained nearly 74 percent (.738) of their attempts from the charity stripe. Defensively, MU ranks second among the eight SoCon teams with 9.0 steals per game, and have held opponents to just 64.1 points per game as well. Ariana Bennett averages a team-best 12.4 points an outing, including 15.8 scoring average over her last six starts, while fellow senior Nahawa Diarra is holding her own in the back court with 11.8 points and a team-best 4.7 rebounds per game this season.

SCOUTING ERSKINE
The Flying Fleet (1-4), a member of NCAA Division II's Conference Carolinas, have averaged 44.2 rebounds (14^th NCAA Division II) through five games, and have tallied 26.6 perimeter attempts an outing so far as well. Erskine has registered 24 or more 3-point attempts three times already this year, including 35 (11-for-35) in Saturday's loss to league foe Ferrum. Senior Albany Wilson has already accumulated 86 perimeter attempts (28-for-86) this season and boasts team-bests in the scoring (16.4 points/game) and steals (3.0/game) columns, while sophomore Ahrianna Scott has chipped in 10.4 points an outing.

MERCER/ERSKINE SERIES
Wednesday's contest will mark the first meeting between the Bears and Erskine.

ON DECK
The Bears will pack up their show and head to New Orleans, La., this weekend to take part in the Tulane Holiday Tournament inside the Avron B. Fogelman Arena. Mercer is scheduled to take on Detroit Mercy (3-5) in Friday's tournament opener at 3:30 p.m. The Bears will battle either Tulane or Delaware State on Sunday in the Big Easy with a tipoff time to be determined.
