Bears Host Chattanooga In Annual Play4Kay Game

MACON – The Mercer women's basketball team will play the first leg of a 2-game, 3-day home stand on Thursday when the Bears suit up to take on visiting Chattanooga in their annual Play4Kay Game in Hawkins Arena. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Fans unable to make the trip to Macon can still follow the action for free via a live statistics link provided by the Samford athletics department. The game is also scheduled to be broadcasted live on ESPN+.

ABOUT MERCER
The Bears (7-16, 2-6 SoCon) have now dropped six of their last seven outings following Saturday afternoon's 65-49 setback at Southern Conference rival Samford. The Bulldogs scored 21 points off of 14 turnovers by the Orange & Black an used a big second-quarter run to avenge a January loss to Mercer. Junior Ariana Bennett has turned in double-digit scoring numbers in each of her last four starts and is averaging 14.8 points and 5.0 rebounds across that span, while also connecting on 50 percent (22-for-44) of her field goal attempts … Freshman Talia Harris has chipped in 10 or more points in seven of her last 10 outings and is averaging 11.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game since mid-December. Mercer has captured four of their seven victories in Hawkins Arena this season, and have held opponents to sub-38 percent shooting performances six times … The Bears have out-rebounded their opponents four times this season, including three times in their home arena … Mercer has committed just 13.7 fouls per game in 11 previous home outings this season, including just nine against North Carolina A&T and Charlotte. Chattanooga leads the all-time series with Mercer, 24-11, and will ride a six-game series win streak into Thursday's matchup in Macon. The Bears have captured seven of their 11 series wins in Hawkins Arena, but will seek their first home win in the series since Jan. 8, 2022. Chattanooga registered a 60-37 win over the visiting Bears on January 18 in the front half of their annual home-and-home series.

SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
Defending Southern Conference champion Chattanooga (11-11, 6-3 SoCon) has rattled off a 3-2 record since their 60-37 home win over the Bears on January 18, including a 74-59 rout of visiting Western Carolina on Saturday. The Mocs shot nearly 58 percent from the floor in that outing to key the victory. Sophomore guard Caia Elisaldez ranks third among Southern Conference scorers with 13.0 points per game this season thanks to a 47.8 success rate from the field. She has tacked up 20.0 points and 4.0 assists per game over her last five starts … Senior guard Sigrun Olafsdottir boasts the SoCon's second-best success rate from the perimeter (.419) and has tallied two or more 3-pointers in 11 games already this season. The Mocs rank third among the eight Southern Conference teams in both scoring (56.2 points/game allowed) and field goal percentage (.378) defense in 2024-25 and have allowed just two opponents hit the 70-point scoring plateau this season … Chattanooga has limited five of their last six foes to sub-38 percent field goal shooting and has allowed just one opponent (Furman) to reach the 60-point plateau across that stretch … UTC is just 3-9 in road outings this season, but two of those triumphs have come against league foes.
