
Bears Defeat Chattanooga 4-3 For First SoCon Win

MACON, Ga. - Tea Zivic came up with a win in three sets to clinch the match for the Bears, 4-3 over Chattanooga for the first SoCon win of the season for the Bears Sunday afternoon from LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
In doubles play, Chattanooga won the first match that finished on court one as Alice Hall and Rozalie Dohnalova defeated Marie Bannmeyer and Dzhastina Mikhnova, 6-2.
Jelena Gojkovic and Tea Zivic won 6-3 over Chattanooga's Emma Pedretti and Margaret Manolache which meant the doubles point came down to the match on court two between Mercer's Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg and Chattanooga's Madlena Orlova and Savannah Presson. In a close match, de Diego Quinones and Hömberg came away with a 6-4 win to give Mercer the doubles point.
In singles matches, Dzhastina Mikhnova gave Mercer a 2-0 lead as she defeated Chattanooga's Madlena Orlova, 6-3, 6-2. Then, on court six, Lea von Kozierowski defeated Chattanooga's Margaret Manolache, 6-3, 6-4 to put the Bears one win away from winning the match.
However, the Mocs battled back by first winning their first singles match on court five as Zara Burns of Chattanooga defeated Jelena Gojkovic, 6-2, 7-5. It was a tightly contested match on court one, but ultimately Chattanooga's Rozalie Dohnalova defeated Marina de Diego Quinones, 6-4, 7-6 (5) to make the score 3-2, Mercer.
The last two singles matches went three sets. First on court four, Chattanooga's Emma Pedretti defeated Marie Bannmeyer, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3 which meant the match came down to court three between Zivic and Chattanooga's Savannah Presson. Zivic pulled it out for the Bears with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win.
Mercer has a quick turnaround as the Bears will travel to in-state foe Kennesaw State for a match on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
