MACON – The red-hot Mercer beach volleyball team will make its long-anticipated home debut on Friday and Saturday on campus when the Bears suit up to host their annual Bears Beach Bash. The 4-team round-robin tournament is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. on Friday, and admission to all matches is free.
Fans unable to make the trip to Macon can still follow all of the matches in progress for free via live statistics links provided by the MU athletics department.
The Bears (10-4) will open up their portion of action on Friday at 10 a.m. when they tangle with Emmanuel (7-4) on Bear Beach, and wrap up Day 1 action with a 2 p.m. Sun Belt Conference matchup with UNC Wilmington (6-3, 4-0 SBC) and a 6 p.m. tilt with Jacksonville (2-8).
Mercer will rematch with all three opening-day opponents on Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. against UNC Wilmington. Sunday's action for the Orange & Black will conclude with a 2 p.m. contest against Jacksonville and a 6 p.m. Senior Day outing with Emmanuel.
MU will roll into the weekend following a nearly 2-week hiatus from competition, but still carries a successful run through Southern California under its belt. Mercer went 4-2 on the Spring Break outing, including wins over Cal State Northridge and Cal State Bakersfield, as well as a win against Southern Miss in its Sun Belt Conference opener.
