
Mercer Defeats UNCG On The Road, 5-2

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Jelena Gojkovic clinched the match for for the Mercer women's tennis team, who defeated UNCG, 5-2 Thursday morning from Greensboro, North Carolina.
The win improves the Bears' to 2-1 in SoCon play.
In doubles action, Gojkovic and Tea Zivic rolled to a quick 6-0 win over UNCG's Elisabeth Birkevold and Lauren Thomson. On court one, Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg defeated Olivia Gallagher and Alexandra Dodashev of UNCG, 6-4 to clinch the doubles point for the Bears.
In singles matches, Marina de Diego Quinones defeated UNCG's Olivia Gallagher, 6-2, 6-0. UNCG's Alexandra Dodashev got the Spartans on the board after defeating Dzhastina Mikhnova, 6-1, 6-4.
Marie Bannmeyer won 6-4, 6-2 on court four over the Spartans' Raegan Mitchell to make it 3-1, Mercer. Then, Gojkovic clinched the match for the Bears with a 6-4, 7-5 win over UNCG's Sydney Bly.
The last two singles matches of the day were split. First, Lea von Kozierowski defeated UNCG's Elisabeth Birkevold, 6-3, 7-5. The last match of the day went to a super tiebreaker in the third set and ultimately UNCG's, Lauren Thomson edged out Tea Zivic, 5-7, 7-5, 1-0 (11-9).
Next up for the Bears is Wofford at home next Tuesday, March 25. The match is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
