Mercer Falls At Home To Wofford

MACON, Ga. - The Mercer women's tennis team dropped its match at home to Wofford 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon from the LeRoy Peddy Tennis Center.
In doubles action, both teams got 6-1 wins in the first two matches that finished. First, Marie Bannmeyer and Dzhastina Mikhnova defeated Grace Agster and Catherine Blouin, 6-1 on court two. The Terriers got the next match as Breda Brennan and Lily Woods defeated Mercer's Marina de Diego Quinones and Ines Hömberg, 6-1.
That meant the doubles point came down to the battle on court three where ultimately Wofford's Brianna Wilbur and Chloe Elliott edged out Tea Zivic and Jelena Gojkovic, 6-4 to win the doubles point for Wofford.
In singles matches, Wofford's Brianna Wilbur defeated Emilia Cosatto, 6-0, 6-1 who was playing in her first singles match since Feb. 8. On court five, Grace Agster of Wofford defeated Marie Bannmeyer, 6-0, 6-4 to make the team score 3-0, Wofford.
Wofford's Chloe Elliott clinched the match for the Terriers with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Jelena Gojkovic. On court one, Breda Brennan of Wofford defeated Marina de Diego Quinones, 6-4, 6-2.
On court three, Wofford's Lily Woods defeated Dzhastina Mikhnova, 7-5, 6-3. Tea Zivic won the lone singles match for the Bears on court four in three sets over Wofford's Catherine Blouin, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. It was Blouin's first singles loss of the season as she is now 13-1 on the year.
Next up for the Bears is a trip to Furman next Tuesday, April 1 The match is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
