Scouting Western CarolinaFriday marks the 35th all-time meeting between the Bears and Catamounts. Western Carolina brings a 12-13 record into the weekend, having most recently defeated UNC Asheville on Tuesday. The Catamounts lost two of three against VMI last weekend in their first SoCon series of the season.Â
The Catamounts boast one of the most prolific offenses in the Southern Conference, ranking second in the league in batting average (.317) and runs (217). Six regular starters hold batting averages over .300, led by Jaylen Jones at .396. As a pitching staff, the Catamounts have posted an 8.16 ERA.
Western Carolina swept a three-game series against Mercer last season in Cullowhee, but the Bears got back by taking a 10-8 win in an elimination game in the SoCon Tournament.
