Beach Bears Dominate Wesleyan In Regular Season Finale

MACON – The Mercer beach volleyball team won a dozen sets by 18 or more points, including four by its No. 5 pair alone, on the way to a pair of 5-0 victories over visiting Wesleyan on Wednesday at Bear Beach.

The outings capped the regular season portion of the 2025 schedule for Mercer (23-11) who has won seven of its last nine outings heading into next weekend's Sun Belt Conference Championship. The Wolves (1-5-1) will close out their first season of intercollegiate beach volleyball on Tuesday at Georgia Highland.

MU's No. 5 pair of Grace Rathburn and Reese Hood registered a pair of 21-1 decisions to tally an overwhelming win in its opening action of the day, and then won 21-2 and 21-2 to close out the afternoon. Wednesday's opener also saw the first action of the season for senior Mary Callahan who teamed up with Kate Hardie for a 21-8, 21-14 win on Court No. 3.

Fellow senior Lexi Polychrones also notched her 49^th and 50^th career victories on Court No. 1 alongside Hollis Engel.

Pairings and times for next week's (April 24-26) Sun Belt Conference Championship in Foley, Ala., will be announced later this week.
