Rania Curry, a 5-10 combo guard, who will make the transition to the collegiate game following an impressive prep career at Butler High School in Augusta, GA. Curry also competed for Team Curry on the Under Armour circuit.
In her senior season, Curry paced Butler with 12.8 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. She helped lead her Butler team to a 19-win season where they advanced to the second round of the GHSA state playoffs. In her senior season, Curry racked up honors as WJBF Scholar Athlete of the Week, Class 2A-All Region 4 Team, and Class 2A-Region 4 All Defensive Team. She is also a member of Youth Leaders of Augusta and the National Honor Society, and currently maintains a 3.9 GPA in the classroom.
"Rania is a long athletic guard that causes opponents issues on both ends of the floor with her ability to defend, and ability to score at three levels. We are excited to have a player of Rania's caliber chose to stay home, from right up Highway 540 to be a part of Bear Nation.
Talia Kemp, a 5–7 point guard, spent the last year at Pensacola State Junior College where she competed on a squad who advanced to the FCSAA D1 Championships. Kemp is an explosive guard with the ability to facilitate and score which will make her an impactful guard in our league.
Kemp finished the season averaging 9.7 points in one of the top Juco conferences in the nation. Kemp was also one of the NJCAA's best at facilitating as she finished as one of the best in assists per game averaging 5.1 assists per game. Kemp was named to the Panhandle All-Conference Second Team.
"Talia is a shifty guard with a great basketball IQ. Her quickness, strength, and toughness will help our backcourt immediately. Her motor allows her to be relentless on both ends of the floor. Her tenacity on the court will help propel this team both offensively and defensively."
Khadidja Toure is a 6-1 forward who's making the jump to Mercer from New Mexico Junior College where she was a member of a squad that advanced to the NJCAA D1 National Quarterfinals.
Toure originally hails from Abidijan, Cote d'Ivoire where she has experience playing against a high level of international competition. Toure trained at the La Base Academy, a prestigious basketball academy that has produced multiple Division I basketball players. With her experience against top competition, Toure will bring an intensity to the defensive end and a knack for rebounding that will help the Bears right away.
"KD is an athletic forward, who has a high motor. Her athleticism will allow her to guard multiple positions and cause match up issues on the offensive end."
Alexis Brewster, a 6-0 forward, joins the Bears from Truett McConnell University where she was an Appalachian Athletic Conference All Conference First Team member. Brewster prepped at Marietta High School under Coach Derrick DeWitt. Brewster will immediately make an impact with the Bears with her ability to score from all three levels.
In her sophomore season, Brewster averaged an impressive 16.1 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game throughout her career at Truett McConnell. Brewster has shot an impressive 47.5% from the field in her career while knocking down 34.5% of her three-point attempts in the last two years.
"Alexis is a long, experienced post player whose ability to score the basketball will make us better immediately in the frontcourt. Her ability to score as a post at all 3 levels of the game will stretch the floor and create matchup problems."
