CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Third-seeded Samford registered victories on Court Nos. 2 and 3 to log the early doubles point and then captured the first three matchups in singles competition to top second-seeded Mercer, 4-0, in the semifinal round of the Southern Conference Championship.
Â
The setback caps the 2025 campaign for the Bears (12-8) who won eight of their last 10 matches, while also capturing a share of their first conference title in program history. It is the first time since 2017-18 that the Orange & Black has finished with a winning record.
Â
It was the second victory over the Bears in seven days for Samford (18-5) who advances through to Saturday's title bout at Champions Club in Chattanooga, Tenn.
Â
Victoria Sardinha and Sebastian Harrison did not yield a game in posting a quick win at No. 3 doubles, and the Bulldogs took the lead for good on the team scoreboard minutes later when Santiago Arredondo and Sandeep Mohandoss finished off a 6-2 win on Court No. 2.
Â
Singles competition proved extremely competitive in the early going, but Arredondo posted a 6-2, 6-4 win in the featured match, while J.B. Pickard and Will Gray clinched the outcome for the Bulldogs with triumphs at Nos. 4 and 6 singles, respectively.
