FOLEY, Ala. – The postseason honors began to roll in for the Mercer beach volleyball team on Wednesday evening when two pairs were lauded with the first all-conference laurels for the program in eight years.
MU's No. 1 Pair of seniors Liv Diaz and Jordan Paddock, as well as its No. 4 Pair of seniors Kathryn Corbett and Nicole O'Mara, both snagged a spot on the All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team squad. It is the first all-league honors for Mercer since former MU sand standouts Tori Penrod and Emily Krogman logged All-Atlantic Sun Conference honors to conclude the 2017 campaign.
Corbett/O'Mara have registered a program superlative 25 victories heading into this weekend's SBC Tournament in Foley, Ala., including 21 triumphs in straight sets. The tandem produced a pair of win streaks of seven or more matches across the spring, including 11-straight victories following a tough season-opening setback to 20th-ranked Stetson. The duo also tallied a pair of wins over nationally-ranked foes, highlighted by a three-set ouster of then-No. 18 Georgia State's pair at the Sun Belt Mid-Year Weekend.
Diaz and Paddock joined forces in early March and have compiled 17 victories across three courts, including a 9-2 clip on Court No. 2 and a perfect 6-0 mark as MU's No. 3 Pair. The tandem picked up SBC Pair of the Week accolades on March 12 after registering an unblemished 4-0 clip amid MU's Spring Break trip through Southern California, including a three-set stunner over then-No. 8 Long Beach State's No. 3 Pair, and then turned in two win streaks of four or more matches amid the next two months of play.
Fourth-seeded Mercer (23-11) will begin its road in the postseason on Thursday when it takes on fifth-seeded Louisiana-Monroe (13-20) in the opening match of the Sun Belt Conference Championship at the Foley (Ala.) Event Center. Start time has been slated for 11:30 a.m. ET, and the match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
