MACON – The Mercer baseball team gears up for another crucial weekend in SoCon play, hosting league-leading UNC Greensboro for a three-game set beginning on Friday. Friday's festivities at OrthoGeorgia Park include a raffle for two Mercer baseball blackout jerseys. To enter, fans must be enrolled in the Mercer baseball Stamp Me program.

Notables

> Colton Cosper will take the mound on Friday looking to continue his career success against UNCG. In his last two starts against the Spartans, Cosper has tossed a pair of nine-inning complete games, the last two nine-inning complete games from a Mercer pitcher. The left-hander reached a major career milestone in his last outing, surpassing the 200 strikeout mark in a six-inning, one-run performance to pick up the win against ETSU. On the year, Cosper holds a 5-1 record with a 3.98 ERA ranks 32nd in the country with a 5.10 strikeout-to-walk ratio

> Andrew Garnett continued to throw the ball well on Wednesday at Florida A&M, working 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Garnett has been excellent in SoCon play this season, striking out 12 in 10 innings without allowing a run

> Ty Dalley moved closer to history on Wednesday, homering in the ninth inning to bring his career total to 54. Dalley sits just two home runs shy of the Mercer career record, held by Tim Smith (1980-83). The junior has slugged 15 home runs this season, good for third in the Southern Conference and 19th in the country

> Zack Thompson stayed hot against Florida A&M, using a two-RBI double to give the Bears the lead in the sixth inning. Thompson is now hitting .304 for the season and .450 in the month of April, and has recorded a hit in 11 of 12 games this month

> Collin Ewaldsen picked up the save on Wednesday with a shutout ninth inning, running his scoreless appearance streak to nine innings. For the season, he holds a 4.58 ERA in a team-high 19 appearances and is yet to allow a run in conference play

Scouting UNCG

Friday marks the 34th all-time meeting between the Bears and Spartans. UNCG brings a 18-21 record into the weekend and sits atop the SoCon standings with a 7-2 record in league play. The Spartans return to SoCon play this weekend after dropping a three-game series to Big South foe USC Upstate last weekend.

Jeremy Wolf leads the Spartans at the plate, boasting a team-best .324 batting average to go along with 14 stolen bases. Parker Wight serves as UNCG's biggest power threat, hitting a team-high eight home runs with 23 RBI. As a pitching staff, the Spartans hold a 5.57 ERA. Danny Thompson Jr. has been the team's relief ace, appearing in a team-high 17 games with a 2.90 ERA and 60 strikeouts while limiting opponents to a .214 batting average.
